Zhalgaa comes from Mongolian, born in Chaoyang, Liaoning; received his M.A. of Arts from The Graduate School of CASS in 1981. He currently is Senior Researcher at Institute of Ethnic Literature, CASS. While in his earlier research on masterpiece Hong Lou Meng (Dream of the Red Chamber), he shifted to a comparative study of Sino-Mongolian literary relationship and published many articles in that area. He is author of Yi Ceng Lou, Qi Hong Ting, yu Hong Lou Meng (A Storied Building with Single Floor, Weeping for the Red Pavilion, and Dream of the Red Chamber, 1984), Yin-zhan-na-xi nianpu (The Chronicle of Yinjannasi"s Life, 1991), and Yin-zhan-na-xi pingzhuan (A Critical Biography of Yinjannasi, 1994). His current research centers on historical literature based on Menggu Mishi (The Secret History of the Mongols).
