Asia-Pacific International Training Center on Intangible Cultural Heritage founded

BEIJING, Feb.22 (Guangming Daily)—Asia-Pacific International Training Center on Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO is established in Beijing today.

Zhao Shaohua and Wang Wenzhang, Vice Ministers of Culture, and Francesco Bandarin, UNESCO Assistant Director-General, attended the opening ceremony.

Trough the platform, China, with the effort to promote international communication and cooperation, is trying to make a positive contribution to the protection of intangible cultural heritage in the Asia-Pacific region.

Zhao Shaohua delivered a speech at the first meeting of the Asia-Pacific International Training Center. He said that the establishment of the center showed a good will of China to contribute to the protection of world intangible cultural heritages and the sustainable development of Asia-Pacific Region. The center will launch international training activities to strengthen the protection of intangible cultural heritages.

Francesco Bandarin introduced the severe situation of the international intangible cultural heritages and the essential measures taken by the UNESCO to strengthen the protection capacity, trying to develop Asia-Pacific International Training Center into an effective international institution providing service to all countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

The center has established cooperative partnership with universities and scientific research institutions, including Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Peking University, Chinese Art Research Institute and Minzu University of China, and will establish centers for training, research, communication, advertising and production of channels and programs on intangible cultural heritages, in coordination with related institutions and local organizations.
