Bamo Qubumo (Bamo Qubbumo) comes from Nuosu Yi, born in the Cold Mountains, Sichuan; received her M.A. in Tibetan-Burman Language and Literature from The Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (GSCASS) in 1988, obtained her Ph. D. in folklore at Beijing Normal University in 2003. Her research focuses on the tie between written and oral traditions of the Yi. She has conducted long-term field study on various aspects of Bimo scripture culture and Yi oral narratives. She is senior researcher and Director of Division of Literary Theory and Criticism, as well as Executive Director of OralTraditionsResearchCenter at Institute of Ethnic Literature (IEL), ChineseAcademy of Social Sciences (CASS). She also acts as Deputy General-Secretary of China Folklore Society (CFS). She is author of The Golden-Eagle Spirit and the Poetic Soul: a Study on Yi Ancient Scripture Poetics (2000), Spirit Picture and Ghost Board£ºA Survey of Incantation Epos and Ritualized Paintings in NuosuYi Area (2004), coauthor of The History of Yi Culture (1990), Mountain Patterns: the Survival of Nuosu Culture in China (2000). She currently has her target field study underway on Yi¡¯s verbal dueling and epic tradition.

Chao Gejin  (Chogjin) is a Mongolian from Hohhot, received his Ph.D. in Folklore from BeijingNormalUniversity. He serves as Senior Researcher as well as Deputy Director of Institute of Ethnic Literature, CASS, and Professor at The Graduate School of CASS. He specializes in Oral Tradition, focusing on Mongolian epic singing. He conducted fieldwork in Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia and his many essays and papers appeared in a wide spectrum of journals. He recently published a book entitled Oral Poetics: Formulaic Diction of Arimpil's Jangar Singing (2000), a field study report entitled The Heroic Songs of the Past: Fieldnotes on the Oirat Mongolian Epic Tradition (2004), and his Chinese translation (2000) from JohnM.Foley's work The Theory of Oral Composition: History and methodology has come to Chinese readers' view.
Deng Minwen belongs to the Dong, born in Zhuping Village, Liping County, Guizhou. Graduated from Dept. of Ethnic Minority Languages and Literatures, Central Institute for Nationalities. He is Senior Researcher at Institute of Ethnic Literature, CASS; His research interests in Dong Oral Literature and Literary Relations as indicated by his books Zhongguo duominzu wenxue shilun (On Literary History of China Multi Ethnic Groups, 1995), Nanfang minzu wenxue guanxi shi (History of Literary Relations of Southern Ethnic Groups, the 2nd vol. 2001), Shen pan lun (On Divine Judgments, 1991); and he is chief-editor of Dongzu wenxue shi (History of Dong Literature, 1988), and coauthor of Meiyou guowang de wangguo: Dong Kuan yianjiu (The Kingdom without King: A Study on Dong Kuan, 1995).
Jiangbian Jiacuo  (Vjam-dpal-rgya-mtsho) comes from Tibetan, born in Batang County, Sichuan. Graduated from Southwest Institute for Nationalities in 1955. He is Senior Researcher at Institute of Ethnic Literature, CASS; Director of the Leading Group for Epic Gesar Studies. He works primarily in Tibetan literature and epic Gesar studies, has published many articles and essays in this filed. He is author of Ge-sa-er chutan (Primary Exploration on Gesar, 1986), Ge-sa-er de lishi mingyun £¨The Historical Fate of Gesar£¬collected papers, 1989£©, Ge-sa-er yu Zangzu wenhua (Epic Gesar and Tibetan Culture, 1994)£¬as well as Gesaer lun (On Epic Gesar,1999).

Lang Ying  is Han. She was educated at Central Institute for Nationalities with distinction of Uygur language and literature from 1960 to 1965. She is Senior Researcher as well as Deputy Director of Institute of Ethnic Literature, CASS. Her works devoted to the Uygur Literature, Turkic literature and China northern epic studies, such as Ma-na-si: zhongguo shaoshu minzu yingxiong shishi (Manas: A Hero Epic from China Ethnic Minority Traditions, 1990), Ma-na-si lunxi (Manas: Comments and Analysis, 1991), Fule Zhihui yu dongxifang wenhua (Kudathu Bilik [Wisdom of Felicity and Happiness] and Oriental-Western Cultures, 1992), Ma-na-si lun (On Epic Manas, 1999); and she coauthored ke-er-ke-zi zu minjian wenxue gailan (A General Survey of Kirghiz Folk Literature, 1992).
Li Lianrong (Brtson-vgrus-rgya-mtsho) is Tibetan, born in Taergou Village, Datong County, Qinghai; Received his M.A. in Folklore at Beijing Normal University, and his Ph. D. in Tibetan Literature from The Graduate School of CASS. He is Assistant Researcher at Institute of Ethnic Literature, CASS. Having completed his doctoral dissertation Zhongguo Ge-sa-er shishixue de xingcheng yu fazhan 1959-1996 (On the Making and Developing of Gesar Epic Studies in China: 1959-1996), he began to develop his research on textual analysis and singers of epic Gesar. He has recently published a paper entitled Woguo zaoqi Ge-sa-er shishixue de lilun jianshe (The Theoretical Construction on Epic Gesar Studies: China Earlier Epic Scholarship, in Collected Papers on Gesar Studies, vol. 5, Pp75-101. Beijing: Ethnic Publishing House, 2001).
Rinchindorji comes from Mongolian, born in West Wing of Bagarin Banner, Inner Mongolia. Graduated from Choibalsan University, Mongolian People's Republic. He is Senior Researcher at Institute of Ethnic Literature, CASS; His research devoted to Mongolian literature and epic studies, as evidenced by numerous articles and papers in that area and by his books Menggu yingxiong shishi yuanliu lun (On Origin and Development of Mongolian Hero Epics, 2001), Jiang-ge-er lun (On Epic Jangar 1999), Jiang-ge-er: zhongguo shaoshu minzu yingxiong shishi (Jangar: A Hero Epic from China Ethnic Minority Traditions 1990), Mengguzu minjian wenxue lunwen ji (A Collection of Papers on Mongolian Folk Literature 1986) and so forth.
  Song Heping is a Han, graduated from Dept. of Ethnic Minority Language and Literature, Central Institute for Nationalities in 1966. She is Senior Researcher at Institute of Ethnic Literature, CASS. Her research interests in Manchu literature with distinction of Shamanistic studies. She is author of Nishan saman yanjiu (A Study on Nishan Shaman, 1998), and Manzu saman shenge yizhu (Translation with Annotations of Manchu Shaman Sacred-Songs, 1993), coauthor of Manzu saman wenben yanjiu (Research of Manchu Shaman Texts, 1997).
Wu Xiaodong comes from Miao people, born in Fenghuang County, Hunan; received his M.A. in Linguistics from Central Institute for Nationalities in 1992. He currently is Assistant Researcher at Institute of Ethnic Literature, CASS, presently majoring in Miao oral literature and verbal arts; Among his publications are articles in Panhu shenhua: Chu yu Lu-Rong de yichang zhanzheng (Panhu Myth and the War Between Ancient Chu Tribe and Lu-rong Tribe, in Ethnic Literature Studies, 2000:4) and Miaojiang Yuzu hongshui shenhua: Miao-man yu Dong-yi zhanzheng de fanying (Flood Myth Transmitted in Frontier Miao Areas: as Reflection on the Fights Between Ancient Miao Tribes and East Yi Groups, in Ethnic Literature Studies, 1999:4); he is author of Miaozu tuteng yu shenhua (Miao Totem and Mythology, 2002).
Yang Enhong  is Han, born in Beijing; Graduated from Dept. of Ethnic Minority Languages and Literatures, Central Institute for Nationalities in 1967. Since then she spent 12 years in inner Tibet learning local language, dialect and culture. She is currently Senior Researcher as well as Director of Division of Tibetan Literature at Institute of Ethnic Literature, CASS. While in her long-term fieldwork in border areas on Tibet, Sichuan and Qinghai, she developed an intensive study on singers of epic Gesar and published many articles in this field. She is author of Ge-sa-er yiren yanjiu (Investigations and Researches into Singers of Epic Gesar, 1995), and Ge-sa-er: zhongguo shaoshu minzu yingxiong shishi (Gesar: A Hero Epic from China Ethnic Minority Traditions, 1990), coauthor of Meng-Zang wenhua guanxi shihua (History of Cultural Exchanges Between Mongolian and Tibetan, 2000).
Zhalgaa comes from Mongolian, born in Chaoyang, Liaoning; received his M.A. of Arts from The Graduate School of CASS in 1981. He currently is Senior Researcher at Institute of Ethnic Literature, CASS. While in his earlier research on masterpiece Hong Lou Meng (Dream of the Red Chamber), he shifted to a comparative study of Sino-Mongolian literary relationship and published many articles in that area. He is author of Yi Ceng Lou, Qi Hong Ting, yu Hong Lou Meng (A Storied Building with Single Floor, Weeping for the Red Pavilion, and Dream of the Red Chamber, 1984), Yin-zhan-na-xi nianpu (The Chronicle of Yinjannasi's Life, 1991), and Yin-zhan-na-xi pingzhuan (A Critical Biography of Yinjannasi, 1994). His current research centers on historical literature based on Menggu Mishi (The Secret History of the Mongols).
